A Penny Saved

The ICAEW has reportedly recruited researchers to ask selected members about their current sentiment wrt the institute and its strategy.

I can save the ICAEW a few pennies on this exercise, by suggesting that the researchers do not waste ICAEW time and money on sending me their survey.

I will be having lunch with Michael Izza on the 20th of this month, in my club (The East India), and will be happy to let him know personally what I think of the ICAEW.

This site was set up in 2004, and was dedicated to fighting the proposal of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAEW) to merge with CIMA and CIPFA, two other accountancy bodies in the UK.

The vote went aginst the ICAEW, and the merger was stopped.

In order to improve the accessibility of this site, and to reflect the fact that this site is being used for an open discussion of ICAEW policy and strategy, it can now be accessed via the domain name www.icaew.info as well as www.globalaccountingalliance.org.uk and www.stopthemerger.org

Background

The ICAEW Council met on 20 December 2004, and voted to continue with the merger proposal; despite the fact that CIMA rejected it.

The deadline for casting your vote on the merger proposal was the 25th of October 2005.

The ICAEW needed 67% of those who vote to vote in favour, if the motion was to pass. They failed.

Remember, as the ICAEW says:

"Our rigorous integrated education and training programme produces chartered accountants, auditors and business advisers, who are valued above all others in practice, industry, commerce and the public sector, in the UK and worldwide.

..The qualification will retain all the features that have made it the premier accountancy qualification in the world"

The vote went against the ICAEW and we ensured that our qualification, and brand, retained its premier position.
