The Most Influential Work in The History of Capitalism?

The BBC are of the view that double entry bookkeeping is the most influential work in the history of capitalism.

Have they not realised that there is in fact a triple entry system, devised by Yuji Ijiri?

More to the point, capitalism really sprang to life with the creation of limited companies.

The ICAEW Marshmallow Pack - The ICAEW Wasting Members' Money!

Did anyone receive a pack of ICAEW rebranding marshmallows?

This seems a colossal waste of our money!

Seemingly they cost £15 online to buy.

Oh, and I am still waiting for the ICAEW to email me the logo (as I cannot find it or download it from their brand page!).

I am running a poll about the rebranding, please feel free to complete it at the top of the page.

Logo Download Problems

On Monday I noted the following wrt the new ICAEW logo:
"Oh, and it seems, as yet, you can't actually access the logo to download it (you can just access the descriptions and images of it)."
Having wasted an inordinate amount of time in messaging the ICAEW backwards and forwards about this, I am no closer to being able to find (let alone download) the black/red logo.

Hence I have given up, and asked the ICAEW to email it to me instead!

Happy ICAEW Logo Day - I Am An Accountant, Fear My Mighty Pincers!

Happy new ICAEW logo day everyone, as you will see in your inboxes this morning the ICAEW has now officially launched its new logo:
Our new brand is here!
After over a year of planning, ICAEW has a new look. We hope you like it.

This change will differentiate us in a global marketplace, ensuring that we stand out from the crowd. It also supports our vision of a world of strong economies − where people can trust data, leaders can make good decisions, public finances are transparent and businesses are accountable.

We have a member and firm logo which you can use on your own stationery and marketing materials (subject to membership regulations). Using the ICAEW logo reminds people that you are a member and therefore have the knowledge and ethical standards that they would expect. It also links you to ICAEW, a respected, international organisation that supports you throughout your career.

You will find the new logo at icaew.com/logo, along with guidelines on how to use it.

Vernon Soare
Chief Operating Officer
The pincers are larger and more menacing, and to add to the confusion there are several versions (black and red, white and red or mono black).

Oh, and it seems, as yet, you can't actually access the logo to download it (you can just access the descriptions and images of it).

Good luck!

Behold The New ICAEW Logo!

The new ICAEW logo officially goes live on 3rd April. However, it is already displayed on the ICAEW website homepage and twitter account. There is also a video on the ICAEW website about the re-branding, that features water.

The logo still features Economia (the Greek goddess of money), except this time her pincers look a tad more "assertive".

It will take the ICAEW several days to update there site pages etc; as such there will be a hiatus in newswires next week.

I dare say the membership of the ICAEW will have some admin to conduct as well, in order to update their websites, cards, stationary etc.

No Name Change For ICAEW

In response to queries about the forthcoming rebranding exercise, an ICAEW spokesperson told CCH Daily:
'We can confirm we are updating our new brand, the first major brand refresh since 2005, and we will unveil it in April. We won’t be changing our name and will continue to be known as ICAEW.'
Would loyal readers care to reveal how much the rebranding will cost them (wrt letterheads, cards etc)?

ICAEW Making Tax Digital Resource Centre

Those of you who will end up having to cope with HMRC's half arsed MTD plans (that's all of us by the way!) may find the ICAEW's MTD resource centre a modest start.
"Making Tax Digital (MTD) is the most fundamental change to the administration of the UK tax system for a generation. The way in which businesses, landlords, individuals and tax agents interact with HMRC is being revolutionised.

As we move from consultation to education and implementation, the latest guidance and analysis is available from ICAEW experts to support members and the wider public."
Good luck everyone!

ICAEW Brand Change In April

It seems that the ICAEW will be changing its brand and branding in April.

As per the ICAEW site:
"Our marketplace has changed considerably since ICAEW was first formed in 1880 – we now have global markets, digital communication and more competition than ever before. So we need a strong, distinctive brand to clearly position ourselves, differentiate ICAEW from competitors and support our future growth.

After a year researching our brand with key stakeholder groups, we have taken on board all their comments and feedback to produce a new brand that will ensure we remain modern and relevant to all our audiences. We believe that this new, revitalised brand will help us to:
  • be a leader in a world of strong economies
  • support our future strategic aims
  • take the ‘best of the old’ and point it to the future
  • unite the diversity of the institute
  • recognise the range of demands of all stakeholders.
The April edition of economia will feature the new brand and yes, you should notice the difference! We will be changing many of our materials straight away so any letters, emails or other communications you receive from April onwards will look different. So will this website.

You will be able to use the new member or firm logo on your own stationery and marketing materials (subject to membership regulations). You won’t have to make changes straight away; you can use the new logos from April but have until the end of 2018 to adopt the new identity."
The logo change in 2007 cost £65K, I wonder how much this has/will cost?

Well Done PwC!
