It is dishonest for the simple and obvious reason that it would be one of at least three Institutes of Chartered Accountants, so 'The' is untrue. It is inaccurate as many of its new 'members' would, like myself, not actually be chartered accountants! I am an auditor in local government - no firm currently wanting to recruit a chartered accountant would look twice at me even if I claimed, by virtue of my membership being transferred to 'the ICA', to be one! Ironically, a more honest and accurate name would be 'The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy' as that would be both unique and truly reflective of the whole membership if this wretched proposal succeeds. Anyone know the privy Council's email address so that I can write and tell 'em?!

Keep up the good work, Ken.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9611129.post-1127746651487359482005-09-26T15:57:00.000+01:002005-09-26T15:57:00.000+01:00The name Institute of Chartered Accountants is del...The name Institute of Chartered Accountants is deluding the public. I doubt it will be approved.

The ICAEW (and or CIPFA) are not bodies with premium quality members, and should not pretend to be.

Long live the ACCAAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9611129.post-1126693422397399262005-09-14T11:23:00.000+01:002005-09-14T11:23:00.000+01:00Personally, I do not believe that THE Privy Counci...Personally, I do not believe that THE Privy Council would even seriously consider, let alone approve, such a change even had ICAS not lodged its objection.

It is obviously both arrogant and foolish of the ICAEW to expect and anticipate such favour.

THE MERGER WILL BE IRREVERSIBLE IF APPROVED (but also to accurately judge the temperature) EACH AND EVERY MEMBER (who is able) OF BOTH ICAEW and CIPFA SHOULD HONOURABLY DO THEIR DUTY AND VOTE.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9611129.post-1126691487437258072005-09-14T10:51:00.000+01:002005-09-14T10:51:00.000+01:00Just a thought:If any Institute wants to call itse...Just a thought:

If any Institute wants to call itself THE Institute of Chartered Accountants (my capitals), the surely only ICAS has any moral right to do so as it is the oldest.

To my mind, the ICAEW's leadership's proposal to call itself The ICA smacks of arrogance.

Similarly, to insist that any merged Institute must use the ICAEW Charter instead of creating a new, combined Charter suggests arrogance.

For these reasons alone, why should CIMA and CIPFA members want to merge into an Institute likely to be dominated by the Council members who appear to consider their views superior to everyone else's (including their own members)?

Any comments?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
